Focus: Postpartum Doula
Language: English, Patois

Stephanie Reid, a native of vibrant Tkaronto (also known as Toronto), is deeply rooted in her Jamaican heritage and currently calls the traditional territories of the Lekwungen and Songhees Nation in Victoria, BC, her home. As a mother, loving partner, and a proud member of the LGBTQ community, she brings a wealth of diverse lived experiences to her journey as a Black Queer mom in Victoria.

Stephanie's path to doula work was ignited following the birth of her first child. Her transformative experience was guided by the invaluable support of a doula from the Nesting Doula Collective during the challenging times of the COVID pandemic. While the birth of her son initially set her on this path, she now understands that her true inspiration came from the profound influence of her grandmother.

Her grandmother, a quietly powerful presence, filled their home with warmth, nourishment, and unwavering support. With eight children of her own, her grandmother's love for caring for infants and young children was undeniable. She imparted upon her children and grandchildren the art of making everyone feel at home and nurturing a strong connection to one's spirit. Stephanie recognizes that these qualities align seamlessly with the role of a doula.

In her doula practice, Stephanie carries the legacy of her ancestors, infusing her work with the same warmth, support, honor, and empowerment that her grandmother embodied. She believes that birth is a beautiful rite of passage, and she is committed to honoring the sacred journey of pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.

Stephanie's mission as a doula, mother, and community member is to offer anti-oppression and trauma-informed support to BIPOC birthing individuals, ensuring they emerge from their birth experience feeling empowered. As a queer doula, she is especially enthusiastic about providing a safe and supportive space for non-binary, trans, and queer pregnant individuals.

In Stephanie's hands, the journey of birth is truly a gift, a harmonious blend of ancestral wisdom and contemporary care, and she is committed to making this transformative experience as beautiful and empowering as it deserves to be.
